With the advent of the steam locomotive came every boys dream of one day being able to drive a steam locomotive or at the very least to own a model which he could control and pretend was his very own railway.

As time went by there were many manufacturers that attempted to produce railway items that would make that dream come true. Some were more sucessful than others and so we have been left a legacy of models ranging from a poor standard to that of excellence.

Tin Plate Trains of St.Osyth stocks rolling stock, track and locomotives by various manufacturers and provides a search and find facility for clients who wish to purchase a hard-to-get item.

We also supply ready constructed track layouts in any gauge or make. This service covers 'N' to 'O' Gauge.

Chosing a gauge to collect.

Many gauges exist in tinplate form. The most well known being O gauge and OO gauge, especially as these are the gauges chosen by the great British manufacturer Mr Hornby. Early live steam and clockwork models can be found in gauges 1,2,3 and 4 whilst Hornby and Bassett-Lowke of Great Britain cover the gauge O and gauge 1. Also to consider are Ives, American Flyer and Lionel of America and Jep of France.

It must also be mentioned that electric driven models are more expensive to purchase than clockwork ones, especially when considering Hornby O Gauge. To start a collection and then change direction could end up being a very expensive move. Many good books are available for the new enthusiast to peruse prior to making a choice, and it is highly recommended that one should do so. Once the choice is made - stick to it! Your Bank balance will depend on it!

For those of you who have already started a model layout we can provide interesting items to order which include locomotives, rolling stock and buildings to enhance your railway.

Narrow gauge models (009/hOe and 0-16.5) are also available and can be provided ready made to your own specification.
