Hornby O Gauge

Hornby O Gauge started life in 1920 . Mr Frank Hornby decided to manufacture Meccano in 1901 thereby starting one of the greatest companies ever to exist. The popularity of the Meccano product and the end of the 'Great War' prompted Hornby to produce a brand new railway system that was within the reach of any boy, young or old, and that could be set up in the parlour or in a bedroom. The products produced at Binns Road, Liverpool. became loved by all and many a small boy would wait patiently for new models to be produced.

The system came in clockwork or electric driven. The three rail electric system was dangerous by todays standards and was more expensive than the clockwork version. Collectable today as was when first made. Prices reflect condition, rarity of the product and the method of propulsion.

A fine example of a 4-6-2 clockwork locomotive - value about £170.00!

An 0-6-0 Engine with tender, value about £60.00 +

Rolling stock comes in all different types of wagon and coach, with 4 wheels or bogies, life-like or a little imaginative. Colours vary as do styles - the collector can soon ascertain the year of manufacture from colour, couplings and detail making the collecting of Hornby O gauge tinplate very exciting indeed. Searching for items can be time consuming as so many variations exist. Condition varies with every model found and so to settle in the first instance for a poor example may be necessary.
